Who We Are
Ventura County has had a Young Republicans club since at least 1953. In those days, our members knocked doors for Eisenhower, held debates in Camarillo cattle yards, and helped shape this county one voter at a time. Much has changed since then. We have smartphones now. But the enduring things have not changed. This country still depends on citizens who are willing to stand up, speak clearly, work hard, and take seriously the blessings of liberty and self-government.
That tradition runs deep in Ventura County. It lives in the memory of the men and women who built this movement, in the neighborhoods where they organized, and in the conviction that freedom is always worth defending. It runs from Reagan first holding events at the Thousand Oaks Meat Locker to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, where four Presidential debates have helped shape the future of our party and our nation.
The Ventura County Young Republicans are proud to carry that tradition forward. We promote civic engagement, political participation, public policy education, leadership development, and community involvement among young adults who want to serve their communities and strengthen their country. We open doors for young people who want to get involved, give them real opportunities to lead, and help prepare the next generation of local, state, and federal leaders.
We believe in freedom under law, in personal responsibility, in strong communities, and in a government that remembers it serves the people, not the other way around. We believe public life is still a noble calling when pursued with honesty, courage, and common sense. We engage in advocacy, issue education, and political activity (as permitted by law) because a free society requires citizens who are informed, involved, and unafraid to act.
Above all, we are here to build citizens and leaders. We are here for young people who love their country without apology, who believe America remains the last best hope of earth, and who expect government to be effective, ethical, and accountable. We did not inherit this tradition in order to admire it from a distance. We inherited it to strengthen it, to advance it, and to leave it in better condition for those who come after us.
